ABOUT THE COMPANY

Since 1923, the STAHLGRUBER Group has been providing satisfied customers with the highest quality. 

Today, subsidiaries and agents represent the
REMATIP TOP brand in more than 170 countries around the world.

In the following years:
1923 - BEGINNING
In 1923, brothers Otto and Willy Gruber founded a joint company. Initially, the brothers traded in screws and small metal parts under the name Otto Gruber & Co, but soon began selling compressors and jacks.
1928 - THE TERM "STAHLGRUBER"
Steel, a more modern material, is increasingly replacing conventional iron. So the Gruber brothers include steel screws and bolts in their commercial program. THE TERM "Stahlgruber" quickly enters common usage and is eventually adopted and retained as the company name. The increasing mechanization of transportation also expands the circle of customers. New auto repair shops are opened everywhere. Stahlgruber becomes a leading supplier of automotive accessories, tools and workshop equipment.
1935 - A REAL MARKET NICHE
Otto Gruber & Co. KG, based in Munich, is founded. The Grubers discover a real market niche during a visit to a vulcanization shop. Until now, tire repair material had been labor-intensive hand-cut from old tires. Until then, no alternative was available on the market.
1937 - TIRE PATCHES
The Gruber brothers decide to manufacture inner tube patches. In 1938, inner tubes and tire patches appear. The breakthrough, however, comes shortly after the end of the war with the development of a cold vulcanization material that makes it possible to repair a heat-resistant inner tube for the first time.
1938 - NAME
While testing the product, Willy Gruber exclaims: "This is tip-top!" and thus creates the name of an idea whose implementation one day led to the conquest of the world market.
1949 - RECORD LEVELS
The millionth inner tube patch is produced.
1950 - FIRST REPRESENTATIVE OFFICES ABROAD
Stahlgruber is opening its first overseas dealerships in Italy and Japan, and production is running at full capacity. The commercial portfolio, which includes automotive parts, accessories, tools and workshop equipment, is constantly being expanded. Both the services offered and international involvement have also increased significantly.
1960 - EXPANSION
The first companies with foreign participation are being established.
1965 - WEAR PROTECTION
Product development is beginning and materials for wear protection are being developed.
2002 - FROM MONACHIUM TO POING
The German headquarters of REMA TIP TOP is being relocated from Munich to Poing.
2007 - FOUNDING GMBH
REMA TIP TOP GMBH is being established.
2008 - MERGER WITH AG
Merger with STAHLGRUBER Otto Gruber AG.
2009 - SOUTH AFRICA
Acquisition of Dunlop Belting (Pty,) Ltd. of South Africa.
2010 - ALPHA DEVELOPMENT
The production and development divisions are consolidated into an independent company, alfa DEVELOPMENT GmbH.
2014 - A NEW MILESTONE
REMA TIP TOP becomes an unlisted joint stock company.
